FAQ

What is soy wax and how is it made?

Soy wax is a vegetable wax and comes from soy plants. Once the plant is harvested the beans are processed into flakes. The oil is then extracted from the flakes and hydrogenated. During the hydrogenation process the fatty acids in the oil change from unsaturated to saturated creating wax.

Why is soy wax the best option?

Clean Burning:  When we say clean burning we mean that the wax is derived from soy plants so does not give off harmful chemicals like most cheaply made store bought paraffin waxes. Soy wax also produces less soot than most cheaply made store bought paraffin candles. Longer Lasting: Soy wax has a lower melt point than conventional paraffin wax so requires a lower temperature to fully melt. This in turn reduces the amount of wax drawn up through the wick and evaporated increasing the life of the candle which means more value for your money spent. Renewable and Sustainable: Our soy wax is grown in America by American farmers and as such is able to be replanted every year making it a renewable resource.

Are your candles considered eco-friendly and sustainable?

Yes, the soy wax we use is made from soybeans grown in America which is a renewable resource. Soy wax is also biodegradable meaning it can be broken down by natural process an will not harm the environment. We also make a point to source recyclable and re-purposeable products to help reduce the impact on our environment.

How do you scent your candles?

There are a lot of fragrance oil suppliers out there so we wanted to make sure we chose the best one that provides the cleanest, highest quality and safest fragrances. Our supplier formulates their fragrances specifically for performance in soy wax candles. Each fragrance goes through 7 levels of testing to ensure performance as expected. All of our fragrances are phthalate free and comply with California’s Prop 65 list. There are no; Carcinogens, Mutagens, Reproductive Toxins, Organ Toxins, or Acute Toxins in any of our fragrances.

What kind of wicks do you use?

We only use wicks specifically formulated for performance in soy wax candles. They are made with 100% cotton and paper threads which are braided and then primed with soy wax. Being primed with soy wax is an important point as some wicks are primed with paraffin wax. It’s important to us to make sure our all-natural soy candles are through and through made with all-natural products.

Why are soy candles usually more expensive than paraffin candles?

Even though the price per candle is typically higher with a soy candle compared to a paraffin candle it is usually not significant when you calculate how much longer a soy wax candle will last. Soy wax has a lower melt point and will last substantially longer than a paraffin candle. Soy candles are also usually handmade and poured in small batches unlike big box store candles. This extra attention to detail will push the soy candles into a premium tier product above the mass produced candles at your local big box stores.

What is the use by date or shelf life on my candle?

A lot of the answer depends on how you store and care for your candle. If you leave your candle with the lid on, in a dimly lit room, around a consistent temperature your candle should perform like new for between 1.5-2 years. However (which we don't recommend), if you leave your candle sitting in the sun, with no lid, where temperatures fluctuate rapidly then your candle will begin to degrade in around 6 months to a year. And when we say degrade you may notice the wax yellowing a bit and the scent throw won't be as strong. We include Candle Care cards with each order to help guide you on the best practices.
